CBS and ABC News have both aired interviews with Lt. Col. Andy Wood, an Army Green Beret officer who led a Site Security Team in Libya from February through August of this year. According to Wood, all told, 34 highly trained American government security officers, organized in three SSTs and a State Department Mobile Security Deployment Team, were pulled out of Libya in the six-month period leading into the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the Benghazi consulate in which Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other U.S. diplomats were killed. According to Wood, who will testify on Oct. 10 before the House Government Reform Committee, he conferred daily with Ambassador Stevens, and there was growing concern about the worsening security situation on the ground, as Libya descended "into chaos." There were repeated requests to actually bolster the security presence in the country, but, according to Wood, "Main State" refused to extend the tours of any of the security teams. The net effect was that 34 highly skilled American government security personnel were pulled out of Libya in the six months leading into the 9/11 attack.
Wood's report was corroborated by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Ut.), chairman of the House Government Reform subcommittee that has taken the lead in investigating the Benghazi security breach. On Oct. 6, Rep. Chaffetz was in Tripoli, where he interviewed security officials and obtained documents, corroborating that the U.S. mission in Libya had requested added security personnel. In an interview with the Daily Beast on Oct. 7, he reported, "Regional security officers were denied requests for more personnel and security upgrades to the four buildings and the perimeter security of the U.S. mission in Benghazi.
According to ABC, State Department officials contacted by the network said that the attack on the consulate was "so lethal and overwhelming" that the additional security details would not have been able to prevent the deadly assault. This, of course, is a far cry from the lies coming out of Susan Rice and other Obama clones in the week after the attack, claiming that the incident was a spontaneous protest over the anti-Islam film and had nothing to do with 9/11 or al Qaeda.
