A senior Pentagon source has confirmed that the Obama White House received a detailed warning of a pending attack in advance of the Sept. 11, 2012 assault on the Benghazi consulate, in which Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers were killed. According to the source, both the Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency provided detailed warnings to both the White House and the CIA that there were attacks being planned against American targets in Benghazi. The reports were detailed enough that they identified the Ansar al-Sharia group as being directly involved in the planned attacks. The source noted that the DIA has recently boosted its Humint ("human intelligence") unit, and has operatives on the ground around the world. The NSA had been monitoring communications traffic in advance of the 9/11 target date.
