Alexei Pushkov, Chairman of the Russian Parliament's International Affairs Committee, warns that U.S. and the West have been blind to Russia's warnings that Islamic extremists like those who attacked the U.S. in Benghazi will come to power in Syria if the Bashar al-Assad regime is overthrown there, reports Voice of Russia, Sept. 17.

Pushkov wrote an article posted on a Hyde Park blog that says:

"From Libya to Syria the insurgents can demand support, weapons, money, ground invasion and air force operations from the United States, they are ready to use all this to seize the power in the country, but the majority, if not the absolute majority of population in these countries have no good feelings whatsoever towards the U.S.."

The article is covered by "Russia Today" and the Syrian news agency, SANA.
