LAROUCHEPAC:
After resistance from U.S. generals and from Russia and China had postponed Britain's planned Syria war, the empire is nevertheless still trying to find a scheme to get it started anyway.
Over the weekend, the Arab League thwarted British desires by extending its monitoring mission for a month, and continuing to oppose foreign military intervention. In response, the British-Saudi Gulf Cooperation Council pulled out of the monitoring team and demanded that the Syrian issue be brought to the UN Security Council. Now Arab League Secretary General el-Arabi and Qatar's Foreign Minister (and Prime Minister) Sheikh Hamad al-Thani are travelling to New York this Saturday, to present the Security Council with what www.naharnet.com says will be a British-French-German-Arab League resolution, which will emphasize the parts of the weekend Arab League resolution which were rejected by Syria as abrogations of its national sovereignty: the demand that al-Assad appoint his Vice President to negotiate with the opposition for inauguration of a unity government within two months, which would prepare elections.
AFP interviewed Haitham Mannaa, a leader of the Syria-based opposition group SNCC, which is Communist Party-linked, unlike the foreign-based SNC opposition group run by the Muslim Brotherhood for the British. Mannaa, whose organization has a different channel of relationship to the imperial overlords, advised the el-Araby/al Thani mission to go to Moscow before proceeding to New York, saying that Russia could support the Arab League proposal if it feels it's a party directly involved, but if the Russians feel sidelined, they will stand against it.
