LAROUCHEPAC:
The big national ADP payroll-processing firm issued its estimate of private-sector employment in August, and it was, again, "worse than expected" by the usual Wall Street economic suspects, the friends of Larry Summers. ADP estimated a 10,000 overall national loss in private-sector jobs, with a much larger, 40,000 job loss in private goods-producing jobs. Also in August, the Commerce Department was laying off its last 80-90,000 part-time Census takers; and state and local employment was falling across the country in vital categories like police, fire, teachers, emergency workers, and so on.
It doesn't promise a good Friday for the failed President Obama, when the Labor Department issues its estimate of total employment in the U.S. economy in August.
