LAROUCHEPAC:
An LPAC team of 10 people organized outside the Plaza Hotel at Fifth Avenue last night, where Rep. Charles Rangel was holding a gala fundraiser. Sporting three Obama-stache posters, a Glass-Steagall sign, and a poster saying "Obama, Not Rangel, Should Resign," the organizers got out 1,000 leaflets on the Rangel-Waters fight, which included LaRouche's call for patriots to rally around these civil rights leaders.
About 300 leaflets went to people directly going into the event. We know this, because we gave them to people getting out of cabs and limousines, at the side entrance to the hotel, which was reserved for expressly that purpose. Some people who took the statement agreed with us, and some did not. The distribution lasted for two hours before the police intervened to shut it down.
The rest of the leaflets, and an additional 400 pieces of LPAC literature, went to passers-by. There was hostility from only one person, who kicked down our sign on Fifth Avenue, yelling something about Sarah Palin. The streets were full, so all sorts of people were coming up and asking us about the moustache sign, and about what we were doing. Many people did not know who we were, or did not admit same.
Former New York Mayor David Dinkins was interviewed in Central Park, directly across from the Plaza, before he went in to the event. When asked what he thought about Rangel being attacked by the press, Dinkins called Rangel "a great American and a great human being."
