LAROUCHEPAC:
On Wednesday, the Portland, Oregon Police Department issued an official statement reporting that it is reopening the case against former Vice President Al Gore for sexual assault. The official statement reads as follows:
"The Portland Police Bureau has made the decision to re-open the case regarding the allegations brought forward against Mr. Al Gore. Consistent with our policy regarding open investigations, the Police Bureau will not be commenting on any additional specifics regarding this case at this time."
After the allegations were initially made public last week in The National Enquirer, the Police Bureau had said it did not consider this an ongoing investigation unless new evidence were received.
The fact that the investigation has now been reopened indicates that such new evidence has been provided by the victim. In a follow-up article in this week's issue of The Enquirer, which includes an exclusive interview with the woman whom Gore attacked, it is reported that the new evidence includes among other things, a "key witness," "video footage" and "DNA testing" from a stained pair of pants.
