LAROUCHEPAC:

LaRouche Tells Labor: Go With Hill-Burton
January 12, 2010 • 7:13PM

In response to the report on AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka's speech at the National Press Club, LaRouche said to tell the labor movement, "Come on, cut it out! If you want health care, go back to Hill-Burton. You can't protest, you have to kill the health-care bill. The Hill-Burton standard is right — the rest of the insurers are thieves. John Conyers has it right [on the single payer bill], but he should put the name on it — Hill-Burton. If you're suffering, take the money back from AIG. Then see how fast the other insurance companies will get in line."

Moreover, the executive board of the International Association of Machinists, IAM, voted Jan. 11 to oppose any health-care bill which taxes the value of workers' existing health-care benefits, as the Senate bill does under the name of "Cadillac plans." "Democratic leaders have the power to stop this travesty," said IAM President Buffenbarger, and they should do so. The tone contrasts sharply with that of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka who addressed the National Press Club Jan. 11.
