LAROUCHEPAC:

7,000 Lose Jobless Benefits Per Day, 1.3 Million by End of Year
October 23, 2009 • 9:46AM

As Obama continues to focus all of his attention on trying to force a Tony Blair-designed, British health-care policy on the US, he continues to ignore what Lyndon LaRouche has identified as the number one issue in the US—jobs. On Thursday, the Labor Department announced that initial jobless claims rose by 11,000 to 531,000 in the week ended Oct. 17. Forty-nine states and territories reported an increase in claims.

While the unemployment rate continues to rise, due to the failure of Obama and the Congress to implement the LaRouche Plan, the administration and Congress continue to turn their backs on those Americans who are losing their benefits. On top of the 400,000 Americans who lost their benefits in September, more than 200,000 jobless Americans are set to see their checks stop in October. Another 7,000 people run out of unemployment benefits every day.

According to the National Employment Law Project, 1.3 million people are set to lose their benefits before year's end if Congress doesn't act. More than one in three people unemployed have been out of work for at least six months.

On Wednesday evening, Senate Democrats took a step to limit the debate on their bill to extend unemployment insurance and bring it to the floor as early as the end of next week. If it passes, the Senate legislation must then be reconciled with the House version.
