July 31, 2008 (LPAC)--Sen. Barack Obama's British souffle continues to sink: Even before the telltale appearance of "signal" pieces in various U.S. press about Obama's "hubris" bringing him down, polls were showing his putative candidacy falling in swing states which a Democratic candidate for President has to win.
The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute today published three more swing state polls--taken in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida from July 23-29, as Obama was returning from his presumptuous world tour, meeting with visiting heads of state in Washington, etc. The polls show all three states shifting against Obama in a match-up against Sen. John McCain, like three other swing states polled last week--Colorado, Minnesota, and Michigan.
Releasing the large surveys today, the Institute says, "Illinois Sen. Barack Obama's recent overseas tour apparently didn't help him" in swing states. The Florida and Michigan polls show those state in statistical ties, whereas Obama had 4-6% leads in mid-June. Independent voters in Florida dumped him: In June, Obama led by 10% among Florida independents, but now he is behind by 5%. In Pennsylvania, where Obama led by 12% in the mid-June poll, he now leads by 7%.
