May 9, 2008 (LPAC)--After 29 years of working as a member of the European Parliament, Denmark's Jens-Peter Bonde today announced that he is officially quitting his seat there, to be able to fully concentrate on the fight against the Lisbon Treaty, according to an interview he gave to Deutschlandradio this morning.
"I was elected to prevent this," he said, "but I also have to make it public, because German Chancellor Merkel and her colleagues have decided against a referendum, against publication [of the treaty]... Mrs. Merkel has not read this treaty, because it is actually unreadable," Bonde stated. He made similar remarks in a recent interview for EIR, conducted by Helga Zepp-LaRouche (see EIR of April 4, 2008).
In another interview with Deutsche Welle, also this morning, Bonde, who was introduced as the Member of the European Parliament with the longest time in office (since 1979), said that things have always been obnoxious at the EU in Brussels. "Wen I arrived here, the telephone book of the EU Commission was a secret document. I made that public." Also the departments and agendas of the Commission had been secret, and if at all, publicized only in French. "Therewere 3,000 secret working groups. Go to bonde.com; there you have the whole list."
