January 22, 2008 (LPAC)--Thirty-three Pennsylvania municipalities have adopted resolutions supporting Lyndon LaRouche's Homeowners and Bank Protection Act as of Tuesday, January 22. Support cuts across traditional ideological and regional divisions in state politics, as seen in the latest two local Councils to come on board, Ridgway and Sharon.
The Borough of Ridgway is a small town of 4600 people, which serves as the county seat of rural Elk county in northwestern Pennsylvania. The City of Sharon is a former steel town near the Ohio border, which used to be home to Sharon Steel, until the company was looted and destroyed by junk bond magnate Victor Posner in the 1990s.
In addition, Rep. Harold James (D-Philadelphia), the prime sponsor of HR 418 calling on Congress to enact the HBPA, has received a steady stream of support messages from local elected officials in largely Republican areas of central Pennsylvania. "I read the provisions of HR No. 418 and I fully support the content of this bill," one township supervisor wrote. "It is in the best interests of this Commonwealth to enact legislation asking the Federal government to intercede in this unprecedented financial crisis which was brought on by the hedge funds fiasco. Hopefully, the United States Congress will take the necessary steps to ensure that ordinary citizens can obtain relief and remain in their homes. In addition, the Congress needs to ensure the integrity of the banking system by providing the capital to ensure daily operations are not impeded. Thank you for your participation and sponsorship of this bill."
