January 6, 2008 (LPAC)--U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-7th C.D. Illinois) held a press conference Dec. 31 in his West Chicago office, to call for a 90-day moratorium on home foreclosures, to stop the destruction now sweeping over his area and the nation. Joining him were local councilmen, mayors and two state legislators. One of them, Illinois Rep. LaShawn K. Ford (D-West Chicago), is a co-sponsor of the Memorial in the state General Assembly, calling on Congress to adopt the (LPAC) Homeowners and Bank Protection Act.
The Davis action ranks among the very few Congressional responses to date on the need for emergency action to stop the foreclosures, evictions and credit collapse. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) has also called for a 90-day moratorium on home foreclosures.
