To Stop Iran War, Kucinich May Try To Force Vote on Impeachment of Cheney

September 30, 2007 (LPAC)--Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), the original sponsor of House Resolution 333 to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, said on the Ed Schultz radio show yesterday that he is "seriously thinking about calling a privileged resolution on impeachment of the vice president and forcing a vote on the floor of the House." Kucinich was spurred by the 76 to 22 vote in the Senate, earlier this week, on the Kyle-Lieberman amendment on Iran. He cited two clauses of that amendment, one which says that U.S. policy should be to "roll back" Iran's activities in Iraq and another that supports the use of "all instruments of U.S. policy," against Iran, including the military. He called this a "license to attack Iran." Kucinich further charged that Cheney and company "are toying with the possibility of a third world war, based on their neo-conservative nightmares, not reality." "For them," he said, "war is an instrument of power."

According to Rawstory, citing a Congressional Research Service report, a privileged resolution would force the full House to debate whether to proceed with impeachment; however, it's not clear whether such debate could actually be forced without the support of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who continues to insist that impeachment "is off the table." Rawstory also reports that there has been no further comment from Kucinich's office on the possibility.
