Rep. Rahm Emanuel to Introduce Amendment to Cut Funds to Cheney's Office

June 24, 2007 (LPAC)--In his webcast on June 21, Lyndon LaRouche upped the pressure on the Democratic Party for its refusal thus far to impeach Dick Cheney. LaRouche stressed that "the minute the Democratic Party leadership says, as Nancy Pelosi has said, we're not going to do it, Nancy Pelosi no longer has any effective power in dealing with the Presidency of the United States." On the other hand, "if the Democratic Party leadership wished to get Cheney out, and had the support of the Democratic voters, it would have the support of a lot of other voters as well, not just Democratic, unregistered, unaligned, Republican--and the Democratic Party would very quickly have the power to run the President out, if they wished to. Then, somebody would listen to a leader of the Democratic Party. That's what the problem is. I think Nancy Pelosi should reexamine her priorities."

Following Dick Cheney's assertion that his office is not a part of the executive branch of the U.S. government, Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) announced that he plans to introduce an amendment to the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill to cut funding for Cheney's office. The amendment will be considered next week in the House o Representatives.

Emanuel made the following statement as reported by Raw Story: "The Vice President has a choice to make. If he believes his legal case, his office has no business being funded as part of the executive branch. However, if he demands executive branch funding he cannot ignore executive branch rules. At the very least, the Vice President should be consistent. This amendment will ensure that the Vice President's funding is consistent with his legal arguments."

Are Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel ready to reexamine their priorities as LaRouche called upon them to do?
