LPAC Member Calls on VA Tech Review Panel to Use New Authority to Investigate Killer's use of Video Games

June 22 (LPAC)--On June 18 Virginia's Governor Tim Kaine issued new directives to widen the authority of the VA Tech Review Panel in their investigation of the shooting massacre at VA Tech on April 17, 2007. Responding to the governor's initiative, on June 20 LaRouche PAC member Don Phau sent the following inquiry to the VA Tech Review Panel:

"On June 18 the office of Governor Kaine issued Executive Order number 53 which directs the VA Tech Investigative Panel to "conduct a review of Seung Hui Cho's psychological condition and behavioral issues prior to and at the time of the shooting." The order further directs the Panel to "conduct other enquiries" which are "consistent with its mission and authority." Will the Review Panel use the authority now given to them by Governor Kaine to investigate Cho's personal computer for indications that he played violent point and shoot video games, as was reported by the Washington Post after interviewing Cho's college roommates? One of those games mentioned was "Counterstrike" a video game that has been labeled a "Killer" game and, according to a book by former Lt. Col. (ret) Dave Grossman "On Killing", teaches the user to apply techniques for multiple killings of the type committed by Cho."

On June 18 the Panel's investigations were given further backing by a court order signed by District Court Judge Randall Duncan which granted the panel access to a transcript of the Dec. 14, 2005 commitment hearing which found Cho mentally ill and a threat to himself and others. This transcript may also provide evidence that Cho was addicted to killer video games. The Panel has its final public hearing on July 18 and then will issue its final report.
